Mangrove Experience
General Information
Private Mangrove Experience: $500 per group/family + IVA up to 5 people. +$70 per extra person if over 5 people.
Half Day Experience. Includes a certified Biologist or Naturalist, snacks on the boat, conservation material.
The Terraba-Sierpe river and wetlands is one of the largest mangrove forests in Central America. This ecosystem is on the Ramzar list of wetlands for international importance as it represents the birthing ground for endless species of salt and freshwater fishes as well as different types of crustaceans. We will travel 3 hours through a maze of canals and waterways which hosts many species of birds like herons, kingfishers, macaws, ibises, toucans, etc. You will also have the opportunity to spot crocodiles, sloths, monkeys and other fascinating wildlife all from the comfort of our boat. Experiences with a purpose
Not your typical Costa Rica Mangrove Experience! Our biologist and naturalist leaders will explain many interesting facts about species observed from the boat. You will also have the opportunity to assist conservation and research: bird identification and checklist, water quality studies, and other important indicator species inventory. Help us protect this incredible biodiverse ecosystem!

Meeting at the MCEC to receive a brief lecture on our conservation projects in the Mangrove.
8:00 AM
Leaving the MCEC to go to Sierpe where our comfortable boat and amazing captain will be waiting for us. You can choose to go with your own transport or with our private minivan for an extra $70.
9:00 AM
Unforgettable boat ride through the largest wetland of Costa Rica. Wildlife spotting and data collection.
1:00 PM
Back at the MCEC for a quick debrief, snacks and coffee/tea.
