Caño island is a pristine Island in the Pacific Ocean. Declared a Biological Reserve since 1978, it is today highly protected and preserved. It hosts the most biodiverse coral reef in the Pacific of Costa Rica, is a nursery for hawksbill turtles, and a home for an incredible number of marine species: sharks, nudibranchs, turtles, octopus, tropical fish, seahorses, etc. Situated right in an important migration route, Caño Island also welcomes numerous species of whales, dolphins, manta rays, bull sharks, hammerhead sharks, whale sharks, the list goes on…. A little paradise in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Don’t be a simple tourist, join us to become a citizen scientist. You will learn about the marine ecosystem, understand how to preserve it, and help us collect precious data on the quality of water, turtle migration routes, marine invertebrates, coral health and much more. Have a positive impact while enjoying nature’s wonders.
Schedule
6.30AM
Meeting at the MCEC to try on equipment and receive a brief lecture about our conservation projects.
7.20AM
Leaving the MCEC with our private transport to go to Sierpe where our comfortable boat and amazing captain will be waiting for us.
8:00AM
Unforgettable boat ride through the largest wetland of Costa Rica (and maybe some wildlife spotting)
9.30AM
Arriving at Caño Island for our two snorkels and our sustainable lunch on the boat.
3.30-4.30PM
Back at the MCEC for a quick debrief, snacks and coffee/tea.
